Background information of Russo- Japanese War
After the 1868 Meiji Restoration, the Meiji government of the Western ideas, technological advances, and customs, and had to accept. Russia, the major powers on the east, had the ambition. Russia colonized the countries of Central Asia in the 1890's including Afghanistan. Russians absorbing the territory was extended. The Russian Empire was stretched from the east of Poland to the Kamchatka Peninsula. Russia tried to be influential, and to be established by putting the Trans- Siberian Railway to Vladivostok.

Russia was defeated by Japan and gave up Korea
On February 10, in 1904, Japan declared war against Russia , but Japan attacked two ships in February 8 and 9 in Port Arthur, Chemulpo Port before the declaration of war. Nicolas II was stunned by the news of attacking from the Japan. He thought there wouldn't be war before they declared war, also, the generals thought Japan wouldn't start the war.

Japan got the information that dozens of Pacific Fleet ships left in Port Arthur in February 4th, 1904. They took action to attack Port Arthur in February 6th. The ships lead by Dogo General attacked with surprise torpedo attack in February 8th. This is the start of Russo- Japanese War. Two ships were damaged due to surprise attack.
